SpeakAn installation by Joesph MillerMonday February 12 through Friday March 9, 2007 Ice Box Contemporary Art is pleased to present Speak, an installation by Joseph Miller. A squirrel, a raccoon, and a pigeon enter a park to find their beloved Douglas fir chopped to the ground. What will their resulting conversation encapsulate? Do you have anything to say? Speak is a conversation between a few forest animals and you, the viewer. Joseph's work intervenes in the natural world in order to examine how we filter and mediate our environment. In Speak, he uses forged steel - a staple of the built environment - to create an otherwise natural scene. The viewer is left to transmit words and thoughts onto pure white glass speech bubbles. Joseph Miller is a Tacoma-based artist who collaborated with Yuki Nakamura to create a public art piece in the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center. He holds a Master in Fine Arts from Alfred University, and has exhibited both regionally and nationally.
